CLC BFS Public Reporting for Professionals Q4FY23 thru Q3FY24
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is committed to Veterans and their families to provide as much information as possible when making the difficult choice of choosing a location for hospice services to be delivered in a nursing home setting. VA Office of Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) oversees VA’s delivery of hospice care, supports this commitment through the public reporting of selected Bereaved Family Survey (BFS) overall scores in support of Veterans making these decisions. GEC administers the National Quality Forum endorsed bereaved family survey for Veterans that received hospice care and died in a VA Community Living Center. The average overall bereaved family survey scores will now post quarterly on the Geriatrics and Extended Care website. VA will only post scores for Community Living Centers with at least 30 completed surveys in the previous four rolling quarters. The scores posted reflect the percentage of respondents that rated care in the last month of life as “top box” (e.g., a score of “9” or “10” on a scale of “0 to 10”).
For comparison, the Medicare Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) hospice survey scores using the same overall rating question are provided by state. Note, the CAHPS hospice scores reflect a blend of survey scores for hospice care in nursing homes, inpatient settings, and in the home as these results are not available specific to venue.
