Social Worker Spotlight: Melinda “Mindi” Rosson, MSW, LCSW-S, COR
“Mindi is committed to the homeless programs and the Veterans we serve. She is never afraid to jump in and do clinical work due to staff shortages and has provided coverage for several different positions to support the homeless team and Veterans. She fosters the autonomy of her employees and works closely with her team to make sure their concerns are heard and addressed. She is also the COR for our program and works diligently to keep the contracts active and in good standing. She has shown patience and perseverance for completing new contracts in a short amount of time to ensure continuation of services for the Veterans. Our program is fortunate to have her!”

How long have you been employed by the VA?
10 years.
Why did you become a social worker?
I started off as a psychology major, and one of my professors told me I thought like a social worker. Once I researched the field, all the puzzle pieces finally fit. I changed majors and never looked back!
What do you like about working in homeless programs?
I like working in the homeless programs because I believe in VA’s mission, and because this program allows for the opportunity to provide services to our most vulnerable population. I have been able to see true transformative change with the Veterans we serve, watching them transition from homelessness to permanent housing.
What barriers have you or your team broken down to help Veterans?
Our team consistently works to break down barriers. We have worked together to create innovative practices and improved collaboration across service lines to increase homeless Veterans’ access to programs and services. We have implemented processes with community stakeholders to allow for seamless referrals for Veterans to engage with needed resources. We are always thinking outside of the box to find creative, unconventional, or new ways of linking Veterans to the assistance they need.
What else would you like to share about yourself?
My favorite activity is spending time with my husband, JR, and our four kids, Jadie, Josslyn, James, and Jonathan Edward. Every day is an adventure with our crew!
