Same Day Services in Primary Care and Mental Health
In 2016, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) embarked on the largest transformation in VA history to improve access to care for our nation’s Veterans. Central to this vision is the commitment to enhanced access and a consistent set of expectations regarding what a Veteran deserves when he or she enters a VA Medical Center. These expectations are summarized in the MyVA Access Declaration, and include timely access to Same Day Services as needed in Primary Care and Mental Health. As a part of our Access transformation, all 166 VA Medical Centers now offer Same Day Services for Veterans with the most urgent needs. This will provide Veterans with timely access to care when care is needed right away.
"When you contact us, we will either address your need that day or schedule appropriate follow up care, depending on the urgency. We may address your health care need by providing a face to face visit, returning a phone call, arranging a telehealth or video care visit, responding by secure email, or scheduling a future appointment."
