Dr. Cary West has served as the interim Associate Director for VA Augusta Health Care System since July 2023.
In his position, he oversees operations including Engineering, Nutrition & Food, Health Administration, Clinical Contact Center, Biomedical Engineering, Privacy Office and VA Augusta’s outpatient clinics in Athens and Statesboro, Georgia, and Aiken, S.C.
Dr. West started his health care career in 2010 as a physical therapist until January 2016 when he transitioned to service at VA Augusta as a program analyst and SAIL coordinator, while continuing clinical work in the private sector. He was promoted to Chief, Strategic Analytics, in November 2018, overseeing data analytics, strategic planning, systems redesign, and innovations. Dr. West is passionate about discovering ways to improve systemic processes while finding humanity in the data.
Dr. West earned a Bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sport Science from the University of Georgia and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the Medical College of Georgia. He is a Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
