VA Central Iowa Health Care System welcomed a new virtual mobile clinic with an open house on June 14, 2024, in the parking lot at the VA Des Moines Medical Center.

Employees and visitors had a chance to get a look inside the clinic and learn more about its operations.

The vehicle has two exam rooms that provide patient privacy, a space for lab draws, and a wheelchair lift to assist those with mobility concerns.

The clinic can facilitate up to 15 scheduled appointments and over 20 vaccinations per day.

To be deployed four days per week, the clinic will mean greater ease of access to care for Veterans across Iowa.

“The Virtual Mobile Clinic (VMC) allows Central Iowa VA Veterans to receive their health care within their own community, and closer to home,” said Emily Morgan, a VACIHCS virtual mobile clinic nurse. “By eliminating some of the barriers of accessing health care, we can continue to improve healthcare outcomes for all the Veterans we serve.”

Morgan put forth a great deal of effort toward the organization and implementation of the project to provide Veterans with this resource.

With some Veterans needing to travel up to two hours to get to the nearest facility, the mobile clinic will have a great impact.

Veterans can visit on a walk-in basis but are encouraged to schedule appointments.

Any veteran who would like to schedule an appointment can call 515-401-5452.
