Cincinnati VA, updated COVID-19 vaccine information
On August 31, 2022, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized updated COVID-19 vaccine boosters that protect against both the original virus strain and the Omicron variant. The updated boosters will be delivered to Cincinnati VAMC as early as the week of September 5th.
The monovalent Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines, which have been used for both initial series and booster doses throughout the pandemic, are no longer authorized by FDA for use as boosters effective immediately. Monovalent vaccines are still available for those who need a primary series and are effective at preventing severe illness from COVID-19.
If you were planning to get a booster dose this week, please wait until the updated booster is available. This updated booster will provide you with better protection against COVID-19.
We will work to reschedule your vaccination so that you can receive the updated booster when it becomes available. We expect a pause in booster shot administration of about 1 week while we wait for the updated boosters to arrive.
