Pharmacy Service Residency Program

Program Structure

The Carl Vinson VAMC offers an organized, accredited postgraduate year one (PGY1), 12-month pharmacy residency program. PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists. After completion, the clinical pharmacist gains experience in the medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, gains eligibility for board certification and eligibility for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

The purpose of this PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program is to train residents how to provide pharmaceutical care to ambulatory care/primary care/acute care and geriatric patients, participate as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team, and provide education to patients, pharmacy staff/students and other health professionals.
