VA ECHCS approves market assessment for Surgery Center in Colorado Springs
PRESS RELEASE
March 28, 2024
Colorado Springs , CO — VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System has approved a completed market assessment for an ambulatory surgery center for the Colorado Springs area in fiscal year 2025 as part of its continued expansion of veteran healthcare for the Pikes Peak region and surrounding areas.
The proposed facility is slated to be an estimated 37,000 square feet and is expected to have four surgery suites, two endoscopy suites, one gastrointestinal procedure room and one pain-management procedure room. These spaces will focus on outpatient specialties that are particularly in high demand for veterans in the Colorado Springs area, such as orthopedics, podiatry, women’s health, general surgery, urology and gastrointestinal focused.
“Colorado Springs is ever-expanding,” said James Crabtree, VA ECHCS assistant director. “As the population increases in the Colorado Springs area, so will that of veterans as well. So, we need to be ready to meet the challenges that will come with a growing veteran population in our area. We owe it to them to make sure we have the necessary spaces and equipment to tackle the numerous concerns they may have.”
This proposed expansion is just one of several planned and completed expansion projects for VA ECHCS.
Just last month, VA ECHCS started construction on a new outpatient clinic in Castle Rock. They entered into a 20-year lease on Dec. 2, 2022, to open this clinic, which will house eight patient-aligned care teams, as well as laboratory and x-ray services. The teams will be able to support roughly 8,000 veterans in choosing VA providers for routine health and wellness check-ups. The clinic is slated to open in 2025 at 3753 Dacoro Lane in Castle Rock.
Further south of Colorado Springs, VA ECHCS is formally considering an outpatient clinic in Fremont County. With an estimated 3,500 veterans in the county eligible for VA health care, and more than 2,400 currently enrolled, VA ECHCS is considering opportunities for a facility with two to three patient-aligned primary care teams. If approved, funding is marked for fiscal year 2026.
Lastly, in 2023, VA ECHCS opened two new clinics, the Garden of the Gods VA Clinic and Space Center VA Clinics, along with adding an additional 9,000 square feet to its existing Union Boulevard VA Clinic, in Colorado Springs to provide increased coverage for veterans.
With the proposed surgery center, VA ECHCS will increase its footprint and care for veterans in the area, while providing them with highly rated care and treatment they have come to expect from VA.
