Reaching Out on World Suicide Prevention Day
On September 10, World Suicide Prevention Day, we are reminded of the vital role each of us plays in preventing suicide among our Veterans. It's a day to reflect on the power of connection, compassion, and community in the lives of those who have served our country.
Since 2021, the VA has partnered with the Ad Council on the "Don't Wait. Reach Out." campaign, a heartfelt initiative aimed at ending Veteran suicides. The message is simple yet profound: if you or a Veteran you know is struggling, don't wait — reach out. The campaign seeks to break the silence, encourage conversation, and remind us all that there is no shame in seeking help.
We invite you to take a moment to watch the poignant Public Service Announcement (PSA) created by our colleagues at the G. V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center. This powerful video serves as a crucial reminder that we all have a part to play. By checking in with the Veterans in our lives, offering support, and guiding them to resources like VA.gov/REACH, we can make a real difference. This website provides comprehensive support to help Veterans navigate a range of challenges, ensuring they never have to face their battles alone.
Your efforts in spreading the word to Veterans and their loved ones that help is available are deeply appreciated. By standing together, we bring hope and can make a lasting impact on the lives of those who have given so much for our freedom.
Remember, the Veterans Crisis Line is always available. If you or someone you know needs immediate assistance:
- Dial 988, then Press 1
- Chat at VeteransCrisisLine.net/Chat
- Text 838255
Thank you for your unwavering commitment to our mission and for all that you do to support our Veterans each and every day. Let's continue to reach out, listen, and be there for those who have been there for us. Together, we can be the difference.
