In August 2016, Dr. Cory Ramsey became the Associate Director, Patient Care Services, Chief Nurse Executive for VA Long Beach Healthcare system (VALBHS).
This role includes oversight for Nursing, the Magnet Program Office, Nursing Research, Sterile Processing, Pharmacy, Chaplaincy, Social Work and Whole Health.
Dr. Ramsey came to VALBHS from VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System in Denver where he served as the Associate Director, Patient Care Services, Chief Nurse Executive. Prior to Denver, Dr. Ramsey was the Deputy Associate Director, Patient Care Services, at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Ramsey graduated from California State University at Long Beach with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice, a Masters in Healthcare Administration from Webster University, and his Bachelors in the Science of Nursing from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville.
He is a board-certified Nurse Executive, Advanced, and Fellow, The Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare in The Ohio State University.
Dr. Ramsey enlisted with the US Army at 18 and was trained and served as a Combat Medic. While serving, he gained entry into the US Army’s Green-to-Gold Scholarship program and became a registered nurse in 1998. That same year, he was commissioned as an Army Nurse Corps Officer and entered active duty where he trained to become a critical care registered nurse.
