Minneapolis VA Women’s Clinic Groundbreaking
PRESS RELEASE
September 13, 2024
Minneapolis , MN — Minneapolis VA Health Care System is breaking ground today on a new Women’s Clinic at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. This event will include a reflection on women’s health care at the Minneapolis VA that began in the 80’s.
“This event affirms VA’s commitment to improve access to health care for our Veterans and in this case, women Veterans. The Women’s Clinic will be specifically constructed to provide women Veterans access to the high-quality health, accessible care services they have earned and deserve,” said Minneapolis VA Health Care System Director Pat Kelly.
The clinic, which is expected to be complete summer of 2026, will offer a wide range of health care services designed specifically for women Veterans, including primary care, whole health, mental health services, reproductive health and specialized care for conditions related to military service. The new space will allow for all women’s health care to be centrally located in one spot with its own exterior entrance.
The groundbreaking event comes as we are collecting nominations to name the clinic in honor of an extraordinary Woman Veteran with a significant connection to the Minneapolis VA Health Care System.
The nomination period, which opened July 16, closes on October 30, 2024. A selection committee will narrow the list down to a group of finalists based on criteria including the nominee's military service information and written commentary demonstrating her connection to the Minneapolis VA Medical Center or Community Based Outpatient Clinics and why the Veteran is deserving of this recognition. VA Secretary Denis McDonough will select the Veteran and her name will be unveiled at the clinic opening in 2026.
