Stephen R. Holt, MD, MPH, MSNRS, is the executive medical center director for VA North Texas Health Care System.
Dr. Stephen R. Holt was appointed executive medical center director of VA North Texas on Dec. 10, 2017, where he leads the second largest VA system in the US.
VA North Texas includes facilities in Dallas, Bonham, Fort Worth, Tyler, Plano, and five community-based outpatient clinics throughout its 40-county service area. With an annual operating budget of approximately $1 billion, 5,600 staff and 1,500 volunteers, VA North Texas provided care to more than 133,000 unique patients and almost 1.5 million outpatient visits in FY 17.
Dr. Holt formerly served as director of the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center from 2014-2017.
Other appointments include VISN 7 chief medical officer, and deputy chief of staff at VA North Texas. Dr. Holt is a Veteran of the Air Force, where he spent 21 years as a Medical Officer (MD1) in field and central command locations. During his service, he also served as the 1st Air Force Surgeon General at Tyndall Air Force Base, and Deputy Director of the Modernization Directorate in the Office of the Air Force Surgeon General. Dr. Holt retired at the rank of Colonel.
Dr. Holt is board certified in aerospace medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine. Dr. Holt has more than 29 years of health care experience. He holds a medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Services, a Masters Degree in public health and Masters of Science Degree in national resource strategy.
