The information on this page is changing soon due to the end of the COVID-19 National Public Health Emergency.

Remember to bring your vaccine card

COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Information

The health and safety or our Veterans and staff remain a top priority for VA. Vaccines are the best way to protect everyone from serious illness. Protect yourself, your family, and your community by scheduling your appointment today. COVID-19 vaccines are proven to be effective in diminishing the spread of the virus within our communities.

Veterans are asked to bring their valid VA ID card with them and their CDC Vaccination Card.

VHA is now offering second boosters to some individuals (with a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine) if you are:

  • 50 years of age or older and your first booster dose was at least 4 months ago
  • Moderate to severely immune compromised and your first booster dose was at least 4 months ago (for some people, this will be a 5th dose)
  • 4 months out from a booster dose and had Johnson and Johnson (Janssen) COVID-19 vaccine for both your initial vaccine and your booster

Who is eligible for a booster?
Anyone age 18 or older who:

  • Completed the Moderna or Pfizer series at least 6 months ago
  • Received the Johnson & Johnson single dose at least 2 months ago

VA will continue to offer COVID-19 vaccine and boosters to those authorized under Save Lives Act recipients while supplies last.

Why is a booster important?

  • COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness fades over time.
  • A booster will recharge your body’s ability to protect you from COVID-19!

For more information about the COVID-19 booster, visit CDC.gov

If you are an enrolled Veteran who received a vaccination outside of the VA, please report it to your primary care team.

NOTE: Initial doses and booster doses of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine are available at all VA Northeast Ohio primary care locations for eligible recipients. Johnson & Johnson (J&J)/Janssen) is only available at the Cleveland VA Medical Center and the Canton VA Clinic

VANEOHS offers pre-procedural testing at your local VA clinic or the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center.  Arrangements will be made prior to your procedure for the testing.

Veterans who require pre-travel/event testing can have that done at your VA location of care.  Walk-ins will be accommodated as schedules permit, but Veterans are STRONGLY encouraged to contact their primary care team to schedule an appointment for testing.

Veterans who are ill should contact their primary care provider for guidance on testing.  If you are experiencing severe symptoms that require emergency care, please follow VA’s emergency department guidance.

We encourage Veterans to order 4 free at-home COVID-19 tests at COVIDtests.gov, or by calling 1- (TTY 1-). Order tests now so you have them when you need them. Learn more about COVID-19 testing at VA.
