Veteran Exhibits Award-Winning Talent at the 2010 National Veterans Creative Arts Festival

La Crosse, Wis. --October 21, 2010-- Army Veteran, Gordon Schmidt from Hastings, Minn., is in La Crosse this week as a participant exhibiting an award-winning talent at the 2010 National Veterans Creative Arts Festival.
The Festival culminates a year-long fine arts and talent competition in art, music, drama, dance and creative writing. The program is open to all Veterans who receive care at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical facilities. The Veterans invited to attend the Festival are all first, second or third place winners selected from the 3625 Veterans who entered the competition nationwide.
Schmidt, is one of more than 100 U.S. military Veterans from across the Nation attending the Festival for a week of workshops and rehearsals beginning on October 19, with an art exhibit and gala variety show taking place on Sunday, October 24 at Viterbo University Fine Arts Center. There the music, drama, dance and creative writing winners will take part in an inspiring stage show backed by a professional orchestra. Master of Ceremonies for the stage show is Michael Peterson, country music sensation. Artists will exhibit their first-place artwork in the lobby of the Fine Arts Center immediately prior to the stage show.
Schmidt representing the VA medical facility in Minneapolis, Minn., won a Gold Medal in the Art Division, Scroll Saw/Fretwork.
The National Veterans Creative Arts Festival is presented by VA, the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) and Help Hospitalized Veterans (HHV). It is being hosted this year by the Tomah VA Medical Center.
