VA Findings of Research Misconduct
Hee-Jeong Im Sampen, PhD, who had been an employee of the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, intentionally, knowingly and/or recklessly engaged in research misconduct by falsifying/fabricating data included in three published papers, one unpublished manuscript, one poster presentation and one grant application. The corrective actions include publication of the VA findings, a permanent prohibition from conducting VA research and a request to retract the affected publications. Alan Lichtenstein, MD, who had been an employee of the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, recklessly engaged in research misconduct by falsifying data included in at least 10 published papers. The corrective actions include a minimum 2-year prohibition from conducting VA research and notification of the finding to the affected journals.
