Veterans Soaring with Model Rockets
On October 7th, VA Providence hosted an event known as R.O.C.K.E.T.S. (Restoring Our Courage, Knowledge, and Empowerment Through Space).
This event brought together 20 Veterans and family members eager to join the world of model rocketry. Aerocyonics, inc. and Hoffman Engineering contributed free model rockets and supplies for the Veterans to build.
The day was filled with hands-on learning as participants, guided by the expertise of Dan DiMase, Robert Hoffman, and Lucy DiMase (Rhode Island Model Rocket Association), delved into the art of rocket construction. Each participant was given the opportunity to assemble their rocket, from the details of fins and nose cones to where they will place the motors before the launch event which will be hosted on Veterans Day, November 11th at the University of Rhode Island’s Peckham Farm. This experience not only taught model rocket building skills but also instilled a sense of accomplishment in the Veterans as they brought their creations to life.
The R.O.C.K.E.T.S. event at VA Providence showcased how a shared passion for model rocket building can restore courage, ignite curiosity, and empower individuals to reach for the stars. It was a day that will surely leave a lasting impact on all who attended, reminding them that the sky is not the limit, but just the beginning of their limitless potential.
