Pharmacy

San Francisco VA Health Care System provides high quality pharmaceutical care services to our Veterans. This is accomplished by fostering educational and staff development activities that enable our staff to expand their capacity to help our Veterans best utilize their medications. Learn more about Pharmacy services including inpatient with acute care specialties, outpatient, ambulatory specialties, and QSV (quality, safety and value) services provided to our Veterans. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are integral members of many health care teams throughout the health care system.

Inpatient pharmacy

  • Central Operations (main Pharmacy at San Francisco VA Medical Center):

24/7 operation supports safe, appropriate, and effective medication preparation and dispensing

  • Pharmacists are members of several teams taking care of Veterans admitted to the hospital and coming to the facility to receive infusions:

These teams help ensure Veterans are receiving the best medication regimen possible and include intensive/critical care, internal medicine, surgery specialties, neurology, infectious diseases, community living center, and our infusion center

  • After admittance to the hospital, Veterans and caregivers may also interact with pharmacy employees:

This is to ensure we have the right list of medications the Veteran was taking before being admitted and when they are ready to be discharged home, pharmacy staff may contact Veterans and/or caregivers to discuss changes to the medication list prior to leaving the hospital
