Dr. Jennifer Kerns graduated from Williams College cum laude with Honors in Neuroscience in 1995.

She attended medical school and completed her internal medicine residency at the George Washington University. Following this, she completed a year as Chief Medical Resident at George Washington University Medical Center and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. Dr. Kerns then moved to California in 2003 to join the medical faculty at the University of California, San Diego as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine. In 2007, she moved to Los Angeles and spent over a year working as a medical consultant for NBC Universal on the reality television show, "The Biggest Loser," where she focused on general internal medicine and the treatment of obesity. She returned to Washington, DC in 2008 to join the hospitalist group at the Washington DC VAMC and is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Her clinical interests include hospital medicine and obesity; she led the creation of a new bariatric surgery program here at the DC VAMC and is a member of The Obesity Society. She also serves on the Research and Development committee which oversees all research activities at the DC VAMC, was recently awarded a Master's degree in Clinical and Translational Research at the George Washington University (2014), and serves as a special volunteer at the National Institutes of Health, where she contributes to obesity research. She is Board Certified in both internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and obesity medicine by the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Her research interests relate to cardiovascular fitness, nutrition, and the management of overweight and obesity
