What would you recommend?
David is a 30-year-old who completed his six years of active duty in the Army as a Special Forces Weapons Sergeant a year and a half ago. He recently met with his primary care clinician for the first time since he returned home from active duty. He is looking for help with sleep and relief from the nightmares he has been having for the past year about casualties that occurred during his last deployment. As part of his exam, a brief substance use screening revealed risky substance use behaviors, including daily alcohol use (four to five drinks per day on average) and recent occasional use of unprescribed opioid pain medication.
What would you tell David and how would you implement a Whole Health approach to care?
