VA Detroit's Fitness Center offers monthly classes and a dedicated staff to help Veterans, employees and others reach their physical fitness goals.

Monthly Fitness Center Class Schedule
The below schedule includes information on both virtual and in-person fitness center drop-in classes. Anyone with an active membership to the fitness center may drop in on any classes.
Group Class Descriptions
iRest-Mindfulness Meditation
A guided relaxation exercise which helps bring the autonomic nervous system into balance. It helps bring the body into a deep state of relaxation, which is important if we are struggling with stress or don’t get restorative sleep.
Learn to Row
Sign up at front desk to register, coaches from the Detroit Boat Club Crew will introduce the sport of rowing and teach the basics of the rowing machine.
Wall Pilates
A low-impact workout that enhances core strength, flexibility through controlled movements with the assistance of a wall.
Wake up Circuit
A 30 minute energizing full-body exercise circuit style class that uses dumbbells and machines to strengthen the entire body.
Tai Chi
A gentle, slow-moving mind-body workout that combines the flowing movements of Tai Chi and the energy balancing exercises of Qigong
Tabata
A 30 minute circuit class that combines short bursts of exercise with rest periods, offering a fun & effective way to build endurance & strength.
Balance & Core Pilates
This 45 minute class strengthens your core & improves balances through controlled Pilates movements.
Motown Cardio
A 30 minute high energy class using Motown music & easy dance moves to give a great cardio workout.
Qigong
A mindful movement class that focuses on the core principles of Tai Chi and Qi Gong through gentle exercises aimed at improving balance, flexibility, strength and inner tranquility. Suitable for all levels, from beginners to experienced practitioners.
Yoga
A practice that combines stretches, breathing and relaxation to improve flexibility, strength and well-being.
Class Etiquette
Group classes are an important part of the fitness center. Veterans and staff participating in class are asked to adhere to the following to help keep classes at the highest possible standard.
- Arrive on time (or a few minutes early). In Virtual classes please have your microphone muted when enter and have your camera on.
- Keep conversations to a minimum
- Be courteous to other class participants and other classes.
- Do not use cell phone or other electronic devices during class.
- Prioritize safety and health above all else.
- Please go to your instructor with questions and comments before/after class and they will answer them to the best of their ability.
