Hiring Fair Triumphs - New Hire Shares Experience with Quick Hiring Process

“All of my co-workers are really helpful, and the environment has been very friendly,” shares recently hired employee, Ashley.

Meet Ashley Hayden, recently hired diagnostic radiologic technologist, or DRT for short.

“Just less than two months ago, I was working in a different health care setting. But after I attended the hiring fair in July, I was soon contacted and hired.”

For many in the community and our own staff know how tedious the hiring process can be with obtaining work with the VA, or any government organization for that matter. Our Human Resources department has worked tirelessly and continues to put together quarterly hiring events that help streamline the hiring process.

“It was super easy and painless. I found out about it a month prior, and that gave me time to prepare all of the required documentation that was listed on the Facebook event page. Everything was done on site when I came in for the fair,” shares Ashley.

At the hiring event hosted in July, applicants had bloodwork done, drug screening, finger prints, and background investigations were initiated. The same will be true with our hiring fairs moving forward, to include the hiring event on October 21st, 2023.

“Ever since I was a student here at the Marion VA, I knew this is where I wanted to end up - it was my goal. I enjoy serving those that have sacrificed so much,” says Ashley.

The Marion VA has many opportunities for our Veterans to use these skills in a healthcare setting. Veterans of healthcare fields successfully work as health technicians, mental health providers, nurses, physicians and support staff and in other healthcare occupations.

Choosing a VA career may come with hiring preferences for qualified service members in transition, including those with a service-connected disability and other honorably discharged Veterans. And if you remain in the reserves or National Guard, you may receive paid time off to fulfill your service duties.

Benefits of Working for the Marion VA Health Care System

Your choice of a VA career also comes with 36 to 49 days paid time off per year, depending on your leave tier: tier 1 employees receive 36 days; tier 2, 43 days; and tier 3, 49 days.

Permanent, full-time, board-certified physicians and dentists may get another five days paid time off annually for continuing medical education (CME) in addition to a $1,000 annual CME allowance.
