We would like to spotlight the following fellows:
Jeffrey Johnson, PhD
Dr. Jeffrey Johnson was an Advanced Fellow in Geriatrics at the Pittsburgh GRECC from 2018 - 2020. He has remained at the Pittsburgh VA and received level 1 and level 2 VA Rehabilitation Research & Development (RR&D) Career Development Awards in 2020 and 2022. His research focuses on the use of functional MRI and functional near-infrared spectroscopy to investigate post-stroke aphasia and language rehabilitation. Dr. Johnson also supports VA’s clinical mission as a speech-language pathologist in the Pittsburgh VA’s Speech Pathology Program.
Quratulain Syed, MD
Dr. Quratulain (Annie) Syed is a Geriatrician at the Atlanta VA who was an Advanced Fellow in Geriatrics at the Birmingham/Atlanta GRECC from 2022-2024. She was also selected for the 2023-2024 class of the Health and Aging Policy Fellowship. This prestigious program, a congressional fellowship funded by the John A. Hartford Foundation, West Health and The Atlantic Philanthropies, is designed to build leaders to inform health policy with scientific and practical expertise in aging. Dr. Syed is one of two VA employees, of only 13 outstanding scholars and practitioners nationwide, selected to continue the tradition of excellence in shaping policies to improve the lives of older Americans.
