Social Worker Spotlight: Amy C. Jones LCSW
“Amy Jones is my right hand in our homeless program and has been a leader in our homeless program since she started with the VA in 2011. She was promoted in 2016 to Lead HUD/VASH Social Worker, a title long overdue. Amy has helped to train Homeless Outreach Social Workers and regularly covers when our Homeless Outreach Social Worker is out. Make no mistake, when it comes to advocating for our Veterans or advising what she believes to be ethically sound, she will most certainly assert herself but does so with much grace. After all these years, Amy has maintained her dedication, compassion, and hardworking attitude and is a wonderful role model for social workers.”

How long have you been employed by the VA?
10 years
If you are also a Veteran, Branch of Service Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard
I am not a Veteran, but my husband is a combat Veteran who is still active duty.
Why did you become a social worker? What do you like about working in homeless programs?
I became a social worker because I love working with people. I love working with Veterans who are homeless and being able to meet them where they are in life. The best thing is being able to be there when a Veteran signs their lease and obtain keys to a new future.
Who is recognizing you for 2021 SW Appreciation Month and why?
Christie Rose Smith, my direct supervisor.
What do you do for fun? Favorite Quote? What else would you like to share about yourself?
I love spending time with my family and watching my kids grow.
“Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.”
