Social Worker Spotlight: Raymond E. Mitchell
“Raymond Mitchell is the HCHV in Mobile, AL. He’s been absolutely instrumental when collaborating with HVCES. With the Amazon job leads I’ve provided, he’s ensured that Veterans and their spouses who are engaged in HCHV case management services are informed of these opportunities. Several Veterans who were either at risk or homeless have been able to secure jobs at Amazon due to Raymond’s encouragement.”

How long have you been employed by the VA?
3 years
If you are also a Veteran, Branch of Service
Marine Corps
Why did you become a social worker? What do you like about working in homeless programs?
I come from a giving, helpful and loving family, so helping and volunteering has always been a part of me, inherently.
I like to provide Veterans with knowledge of the VA, programs provided by VA, and other benefits that they may not be aware of — allowing Veterans the chance to be in a stable environment so that they can focus on other things like their health and employment and not merely surviving.
What do you do for fun? Favorite Quote? What else would you like to share about yourself?
I like to travel, try new restaurants and new foods. I also like to ride my motorcycles and enjoy time with my kids, family and grandkids.
“Live like SHE (Smiling/Self Care, Happiness, Experiences).”
