Brenda Witt
VHA Social Worker
Workplace & VISN
Fargo VAMC, North Dakota, VISN 23
How long have you been employed by the VA?
15 years
Branch of Service:
U.S. Army Reserves
Why did you become a social worker? What do you like about working in VHA homeless programs?
I chose the homeless program because I wanted to help Veterans by “meeting them where they are at” when it comes to stages of change. The Veterans we serve in our program can be at any stage in their recovery and it is my job to help them work on their barriers to finding independent, permanent housing.
The time is right for social work because society is understanding that it takes a holistic approach to treat a person.
What else would you like to share about yourself?
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I like to exercise and read books.
My favorite quote is: “Love and forgiveness: The essence of life is to love yourself and love others, to forgive yourself and forgive others” —Brenda Witt
