How long have you been employed by the VA?
12 years, 9 months
Why did you become a social worker? What do you like about working in VHA homeless programs?
I became a social worker after taking an aptitude test in college. I was so sure I would be a research scientist, however after changing my major, I felt that this was my true passion. I started working with developmentally disabled people experiencing homeless 21 years ago. It was a challenging and rewarding experience – they are the truly hidden and underserved in our society.
When I came to VA, the daughter of a WW2 101st airborne paratrooper, I felt I had found my true mission.
What else would you like to share about yourself?
I like to travel, spending time with family and friends (who live all over the US and Europe).
My favorite quote is, “It’s no big deal, unless it’s fatal.” – John J. Pelizza, Ph.D.
This has been a quote I try to live by. Most things are fixable.
