Social Worker Spotlight: Ivan Ferrouillet, LMSW
“Ivan Ferrouillet, LMSW is an HCHV Outreach Social Worker with SLVHCS. Ivan works diligently with Veterans, Veteran’s families, HUD-VASH, Outreach Social Work Peers, Coordinated Entry, GPD and Contract Residential Liaisons, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment Programs both within and outside of the VA, VA Benefits, and Supportive Services for Veterans and Families agencies to provide wrap around services to support Veterans during their housing crises. While Ivan has a large workload, he often takes on additional tasks, and always offers to help other staff members. Nonetheless, his work is impeccable. I have observed Ivan provide quality service to each Veteran he serves and witnessed Ivan’s commitment to helping homeless Veterans on a daily basis for the past two and a half years. Ivan treats every Veteran with dignity, respect and is a strong advocate to ensure the Veteran gets the care they need. Ivan provides each Veteran he serves with his personal VA cell number and Ivan always assures his availability to them which requires a lot of creative flexibility. Ivan is dedicated to the social work field and has almost completed his Ph.D. in social work while employed at the VA. Ivan is an inspiration to all of us and a role model for providing excellent customer service. Ivan has truly found his calling in enhancing not just Veterans but overall human well-being through helping to meet basic human needs and beyond.”

How long have you been employed by the VA?
2 ½ years
What was your Branch of Service?
Air Force
Why did you become a social worker? What do you like about working in homeless programs?
I became a social worker to help Veterans in need of services. After my discharge from military service, I was not privy to the VA nor benefits afforded to me. It took a VA social worker to help me get established with the VA system, which has made a tremendous impact on my life.
I love working with homeless Veterans because I can positively impact their lives in many different aspects. From housing to connecting them with a plethora of VA services and benefits. For me, it started with the HCHV Program. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve.
The time is right because social workers are needed on the front lines to help our Vets address their daily problems, which are often compounded with physical/emotional traumas related to the Pandemic. I love being on the front lines to help Veterans overcome any psychosocial difficulties.
What else would you like to share about yourself?
I'm a sports fanatic. I love watching and attending football, basketball, and boxing events. I love reading books and listening to music (hip hop, pop, old school soul/R & B, 80s rock, funk, disco, and jazz).
