Ms. Brunn has demonstrated perseverance with her determination to assist Veterans with receiving income to enhance their quality of life. Ms. Brunn has accepted Team Lead duties without hesitation and often volunteers for community projects to address the needs of the Veterans within the homeless program. In addition to her work in the homeless program, Ms. Brunn has also volunteered to cover other programs within the VA facility to increase patient care. This includes working in the Emergency Room Department and Mental Health Programs, as well as completing assessments in the Homemaker and Home Health Aide Care Program.”

Why did you become a social worker? What do you like about working in VHA homeless programs?
I always knew that I wanted to be in a helping profession, but I did not know in what capacity. I chose social work because I wasn’t limited in the way I could be of service. I chose VA because I wasn’t pleased with the level of care I received as a Veteran and wanted to make a change. I think a lot of people underestimate social workers and what we do, and don’t realize that it takes a special person to be a social worker because of the type of assistance we provide.
