Social Worker Spotlight: Teresa Lopez
“Teresa has been with the CRRC as an Outreach Social Worker since 2013. She is never hesitant to take on additional assignments despite being responsible for an expansive area of coverage encompassing both urban and rural communities. Teresa challenges systems and advocates for our Veterans and her team. I have received calls from Veterans acknowledging the care and support Teresa provided in helping them to access homeless services. The CRRC is fortunate to have Teresa as a senior staff member and it has been my honor to supervise her for the past 5 years.”
— Reaver Nelson, Program Coordinator Community Resource and Referral Center

How long have you been employed by the VA?
9 years
Why did you become a social worker? What do you like about working in VHA homeless programs?
I became a social worker because I wanted to help people. I was glad to join VA and always wanted to work with Veterans. The homeless programs were of interest to me because it gave me a chance to work with Veterans in need
I believe it is the right time for societal change in light of the events occurring over the past two years. Social workers have a unique opportunity to encourage and advocate for social justice and change
What else would you like to share about yourself?
I enjoy writing stories and reading fiction.
