Research Interests
My lab's mission statement is to prevent, classify and treat brain and spinal cord injury via the development of objective and algorithmic measures. The current status quo for brain injury is that many injuries are not seen on conventional imaging and are either missed entirely or thought to be exaggerated. The lack of objective measures also contributes to inequity in treatment and outcome for people with brain injury. Objective measures can be physiologic (eye tracking), inform regarding cellular damage (serum markers) or anatomical (imaging). Combining measures can lead to better classification of brain injury, improved ability to test prophylactics and therapeutics, and thus better outcomes. My laboratory also investigates the capacity for epidural spinal cord stimulation to improve outcomes after spinal cord injury in conjunction with other investigators.
