Nursing Education
Access to high quality, timely health care requires a competent nursing workforce. In recent years, the Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA) has implemented multiple innovative nursing workforce training programs to enhance nursing education and practice by facilitating a stronger and mutually beneficial partnership between the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Schools of Nursing (SON) across the nation. To address the current national shortage of experienced nursing workforce, OAA pioneered Registered Nurse (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) residency programs. OAA supports the clinical training of more than 25,000 nursing students annually.
