Glatiramer (Copaxone, Glatopa, Generic Glatiramer Acetate)
Glatiramer acetate is a medication administered by subcutaneous injection, either at 20 mg/mL injected daily or 40 mg/mL injected 3 times/week, for the treatment of relapsing forms of MS. Glatiramer is available in brand name (Copaxone made by Teva) or one of two generics (Glatopa made by Sandoz and generic glatiramer acetate made by Mylan). Glatiramer is theorized to reduce MS relapses by inhibiting antigen-presenting cells which promotes shift to anti-inflammatory Th2 T cells in peripheral circulation.
