VA RESEARCH FOR VETERANS - Veteran Engagement Groups

Veteran Engagement in Research

Veterans Engagement Groups

Veteran engagement refers to the meaningful, two-way involvement of Veterans in the research process. Here, Veteran engagement does not mean participating in a research study or as a member of focus group. Instead, Veteran engagement groups bring Veterans into the research process as active stakeholders who ensure that research studies consider Veterans’ perspectives and opinions on how research is conducted, and/or shared. In this regard, Veterans are a valuable resource to provide feedback that is based on their personal experiences and unique perspective. The goal of Veteran engagement groups is to improve the quality, Veteran-centeredness, and impact of research.

Participating

Involvement in a Veteran Engagement Groups can take many forms. Participation may be short term guidance on a particular study or part of a standing group that provides feedback on multiple projects. In either case the goal remains the same: to increase the significance, quality, adoption, and dissemination of research discoveries to Veterans and those who serve them.  Possibly contact information or website to see if there is a Veteran’s engagement group at home VA? Suggestions in how to get involved?
